Micropress Made Large Investments in Heidelberg Print Equipment

Micropress Printers Ltd. Is one of the UK’s largest independently owned printing companies. It handles a broad range of work including brochures, catalogues, books, magazines, and high-run leaflets, and operates a publishing arm as well. The company is very sustainability-minded, powered by solar panels and a biomass boiler, and runs to ISO12647 color standards. 

In March this year, the printing company invested approximately £3.75 million in new equipment for the press. While the investment included a number of different machines, the main highlight of the purchase is an 18,000sph 10 color Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106 with Push-to-Stop technology. The press company is now home to three long perfectors, including the new 10 color and two 8 color XL106 offset printing machines. Micropress also has a B2 5 colour XL75 in operation. 

“We are building for the future,” Micropress director Rob Cross says, “The new ten-colour should give us about 15% extra capacity. It’s our first 10-colour and first 18,000sph press. You’ve got to invest to stay competitive, and it’s a good time to re-invest and look at the business and the growth we want to achieve.” 

The company has also replaced its competitor folder with a second TH82-P Stahlfolder, a top-of-the-range Stahl TH 82-P high-speed folder. 

Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 is claimed to be the most intelligent Speedmaster yet by the parent company itself. It is suitable for frequent job changes and provides high quality with steady production speed in both straight printing and perfecting mode. The intelligent interaction between its automation components enables the cost-effective production of all printing products.
