The number of printing methods and the accompanying technology is ever evolving.  Businesses have the liberty to choose the technique and method that best suit their product and service offerings. There are several types of printing machines for printing on different medium since different printing machines make use of different technology.

Let’s have a look at some of the commonly used printing techniques:

Digital Printers

Digital printing is the modern way of printing where printing plates are not needed to imprint the image. It includes inkjet printing and laser. Digital printing involves using software or digital files like PDFs to get a print. It’s a time saving and cost effective method for businesses. It is commonly used for posters, labels, newsletters etc.

Offset Printing

Also known as offset lithography, it is a commonly used technique in which firstly inked image is printed on rubber cylinder and then transferred to wood, cloth, canvas or other material. It is used for newspapers, magazines, brochures, stationery and books and mostly high value print jobs.

Flexography

Flexography is contemporary version of letterpress printing. This is also known as surface printing and often used to printing on packaging or uneven surface. In flexography, the ink gets dried immediately, hence its suitable for packaging, plastic, metallics.

3D printing

3D printing involves layer upon layer method to make an object. It is used to show an object in three dimensions. Digital (CAD) file is used for printing 3D image. Material used for 3D printing is thermoplastic, photopolymers and epoxy resins. 3D printing is used in automotive industry, aerospace industry, construction industry and more.

Heat press machines

Simply put, heat press printing means transferring the design onto the desired material through pressure. It is also known as heat transfer printing. There are multiple types of heat transfers such as vinyl and digital, which can be used depending on the business needs.

Screen printing

To create a design, stencilled mesh screen is used with pressed ink to transfer image onto another material. It is also known as serigraphy or silk screen method. Commonly, this method is used for bold canvasses, posters and artworks but it is also used to imprint on fabric and textile as well.
